Communication is power.
On this module, you’ll examine how political ideas are communicated, shaping the possibilities and limits of political action. You’ll explore communication as an active and contested process that takes place both in everyday life and traditional political settings.
You’ll analyse:
- how political messages are communicated
- the ways they’re repurposed and subverted
- the influence of today’s rapidly changing political and technological landscape.
You’ll analyse a wide range of primary sources, including speeches, news reports, TV shows and memes.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
