Developing Children's Communication, Language and Literacy (X6604)
15 credits, Level 5
Spring teaching
This module builds on the Year 1 module, Exploring Children’s Language, Literacy and Communication.
You’ll develop your understanding of how to foster children’s communication, language and literacy. The module helps you build on key theories and practical approaches, with hands-on classroom experience.
Having focused on reading, we now shift the focus to writing. You’ll explore how skilled practitioners support language and literacy development through:
- the importance of play
- creating an enabling environment
- rich storytelling and roleplay opportunities.
Through the lens of inclusion, you’ll examine how to shape the teaching of writing and nurture lifelong writers. You’ll reflect on classroom experiences, considering both established and new teaching ideas. You’ll also critique and contextualise policy and practice.
