Autumn and spring teaching
During your final year, you’ll design and implement an empirical investigation in the field of geography. The Geography Thesis involves:
- collecting and analysing primary and/or secondary data
- presenting your findings as a piece of formally structured, individual research.
You’ll practice your training in collection techniques, data analysis and primary source material analysis.
Throughout the design, execution and writing of your thesis, you’ll be supported by one-to-ones and group supervision.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 10 hours of contact time and about 290 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We鈥檙e planning to run these modules in the academic year 2025/26.
