Aspects of Commercial Law (M5001)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you’ll study key areas of law that govern commercial transactions. This includes the law of agency and the rules for transferring personal property.

Topics include:

  • what counts as personal property
  • how new forms of property (e.g emissions trading allowances) are recognised
  • the rules for transferring personal property
  • the foundations of agency law
  • how agency relationships are created
  • disclosed and undisclosed agency.

A central theme of the module is how legal doctrine responds to commercial change. You’ll explore the balance between stability and adaptation in legal principles and frameworks.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 20 hours of contact time and about 130 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
