On this module, you’ll engage with key philosophers of the 17th and 18th centuries. You’ll examine assumptions, arguments and ideas from the empiricist and rationalist traditions, and learn how they affect contemporary discussions of the issues.

This will lay the groundwork for a clear and informed understanding of contemporary philosophy, and its impact on the world.

  • Analyse key arguments from major philosophers working within rationalist and empiricist traditions.
  • Analyse key texts from the Early Modern period.
